a) Evaluate UV light as sterilant
b) Bacteria endospores are more resistant to unfavourable environmental factors then vegetative bacterial cells or fungal cells. Is this the case with UV radiation?
c) Are all wavelengths of UV germicidal? Explain?
d) What is a zone of inhibition when referring to antibiotic disk?

a) UV radiation is an excellent sterilant. One of the best actually.
b) I suspect not.
c) Don’t know. you get UVA, UVB, and UVC. Check wikipedia.
d) A zone of inhibition is the clear area around an antibiotic laden paper disc where the lawn of bacteria that was innoculated onto a petridish of agar can not grow. Innoculate the plate with a standard concentration of bacteria (0.5 MacFarland) add your disks. Incubate and sit back and wait. Standard agar thickness and nutrient concentrations are used, along with standard antibiotic concentrations in the disks. (I did this work for 2 years).
