How can I keep my rubber tree plant alive outdoors in winter?

I live in a warm climate, similar to Georgia in the southern USA, but winters are dry and temps can drop a little below freezing at night. Daytime is usually 10 to 15C and sunny in the daytime. I have a rubber tree plant but it’s too large to bring into the house. I’d also like to avoid spending a lot of money at the DIY center on a kind of mini greenhouse.

Plastic covering rarely works to keep plants warm. They often freeze where the plastic touches the leaves. Could you just cobble together a teepee like greenhouse using three sticks and some Visqueen? If you put a string of Christmas lights inside, your plant should do fine.
